Okay, I think I'm starting to get the hang of this blitz thing. Just broke 1100 for the first time after starting 5-minute blitz on ICC. That's +200 points from where I began. Now it seems I can actually win most of those 'won' games, and I don't panic nearly as much either (although there's still a lot to do on that area). From the last 20 games I've won 15 and lost only 5. Starting out it was around 15 losses for every 5 wins, so clear improvement there. And what's more important, is that none of the losses were flagged in a won position.
ICC 5-minute: 1101, 185 games played.

Good progress. I think its time for you to move to bullet. :D
heheh, I've been actually thinking about it. after some bullet binges, which are just bound to end up into horrible car wrecks, a 5 0 blitz must feel like a standard game. :)
Go for it. Bullet is chess at its finest form, because if you don't instantly know what to move, you are dead lost. And after you master bullet chess, its trivial to master longer time controls.
0/4.
0/4!
0/4 is the way to play bullet. i TOTALLY agree with jusah!
another way of saying what jusah aptly says, is that it tests instinct, since there is little time to calculate, but i must say, you still can. it is not totaly madness, just faster calculation, and, as the situation turns chaotic, you must act on gut.
i would NOT call it instant at 0/4 or 2/1 but very quickly indeed. for one or two moves, you can take a think, not unlike a 30 sec move at CTS when the average is more like 8-12 sec, etc.
because, instead of some silly 1/0 or 2/0 or even 3/0,
you start with 12 seconds, then, after a quick opening, and, lets face it, most of us know what to do for eight to twelve moves, you have a minute to start out, or 40 seconds, if you THINK.
a 40 move game is 2:52.
alternately, 2/1 or 1/2 are also very good, and it is a matter of taste.
what i like, is when they go over 40 moves, and it gets serious, and can last 3:10 to even 3:40, etc.
yes, it is time for bullet.
-----------
if you MUST be proximate to 5/0, then try
3/2 or 2/4, etc. big quality difference.
what do you loose? only one single thing, a pool of players automatically served to you.
warmly, dk
